I’m Alexander, a follower of Jesus Christ who longs to know more about my God and my faith.

I founded this blog largely as a space to enable my external processing, but also as an aid to form and maintain connections to fellow members of the faith who share my longing to dive deeper.

I believe the Bible is a rich and deep piece of literature that warrants a lifetime of meditation, day and night. I believe its truth is similarly complex, multifaceted, and in need of deep study so it will bear fruit in our lives and the lives we touch.

Outside of dabbling in theology, my interests largely revolve around appreciating the many facets of creation. I’m an engineer by trade and by hobby, I blog elsewhere about cooking, and I’m a fan of tabletop games – most of which serve as ways to relate to the other people, the pinnacle of creation.

Hello! I am Brian Devereaux. I follow Jesus with all my heart, life-animating-breathe, and strength. I am a husband and a father. I am a pastor for those coming out of the chains of chemical substance addiction. I am completely captivated by the biblical narrative.

I write for this blog mainly to continue engaging the Bible intelligently with others who dare to read the story with imagination and wonder. The biblical narrative is THE STORY that unwinds all the broken stories running our day to day lives. The only way I know to get them out is by reading the Bible again and again. So I do!

I read the biblical narrative as a complex unified story where no single word is out of place. Furthermore, I believe there is  an art to reading it well, and it constantly means being mindful of the preceding narratives. I hope to be on this adventure with all the regular readers as we thoughtfully read the Bible. 

In my free time, I read theology books and the Bible and discuss them with anyone who will listen. If you don’t believe me, ask Alex! I like many fine cups of coffee throughout the day. I usually cannot turn down a good hike, camp fire, board game, and ultimate frisbee game all with people whom I try to love fully!
